Council member Tony Iarocci was reappointed to serve a second term on the South Atlantic Council in an obligatory seat for the state of Florida in August of 2003. A commercial lobster fisherman from Grassy Key, Florida, Iarocci currently serves as Chairman of the Council’s Marine Protected Area Committee as well as the Spiny Lobster Committee.
During his first term on the Council, Iarocci has worked diligently to include stakeholders in the Council process to use marine protected areas as a fisheries management tool. In addition, he earlier worked closely with Florida fishermen during the development of the Dry Tortugas National Marine Sanctuary as part of the Tortugas 2000 Working Group. As a marine consultant with Global Marine, Iarocci continues to work in the marketing and sale of domestic and foreign seafood products, working to apply sustainable fisheries technology to existing third world fisheries.
