Appointed to the Council in August of 2005, Robert Boyles is the Deputy Director for the Marine Resources Division of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in Charleston, South Carolina. In this position Robert is responsible for all aspects of the operations, management, and policy coordination for the Marine Resources Division. As part of his current job duties, Robert oversees South Carolina’s considerable investment in South Carolina’s marine resources research, management, and education operations, which include almost 200 employees and a budget of approximately $17 million. As part of his duties Robert also represents the State of South Carolina as a Commissioner on the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission.

Prior to joining the SCDNR, Robert worked in a variety of positions in marine resources management and administration, including stints with the South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium in Charleston and the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration in Washington, DC.

Robert holds a Master of Marine Policy from the University of Delaware and a BS in mathematical economics from Wake Forest University. Robert is married to the former Elizabeth Prioleau of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. They have two sons and live in Mount Pleasant, SC.
